Day 1 - Departure Day

Today we meet our fellow travellers at the airport to board the departure flight, ready to begin a journey filled with new and exciting experiences.

Day 2 - Arrive Zagreb

Tuesday, October 6th, 2015

Zagreb Aerial City ViewUpon arrival, we are transferred to our hotel where we enjoy a welcome drink. Then we can take a short stroll around the hotel area where there is lots to see and do, before enjoying dinner at the hotel.

Day 3 - Zagreb Walking tour

Wednesday, October 7th, 2015

Zagreb StreetsAfter breakfast this morning we enjoy a walking tour of the old city. Leaving our hotel, we walk a short distance to the funicular which takes us up to the old part of the city. We learn about the history and architecture of Zagreb, while we enjoy the view from the location of the fortified walls. After wandering through the old city, we end up in the market, just across from our hotel. Take some time to explore on your own this afternoon, but work up an appetite, as tonight we are treated to dinner at a famous local restaurant.

Day 4 - Trakoscan Castle - Ljubljana

Thursday, October 8th, 2015

Trakoscan CastleAfter breakfast today, we depart Zagreb heading for Ljubljana in Slovenia. Along the way we stop on the Zagorje hillside to tour Trakoscan Castle - one of Croatia's most beautiful castles! After a break for lunch, we continue into Slovenia and our final destination, Ljubljana. This afternoon we have some free time to wander on our own before dinner at our hotel.

Day 5 - Ljubljana - Bled

City Scene along riverThis morning we enjoy a local tour of Ljubljana, including a ride on a funicular to visit the castle and view the famous Triple Bridge. After lunch we depart for Bled, and enjoy the scenery as we travel west. Upon arrival we take a boat ride to the island in the middle of Lake Bled and visit the Church of the Assumption. After we check into our hotel, take some free time to explore this lovely little town.

Day 6 - Vintgar Gorge - Bled Castle

Saturday, October 10th, 2015

View from the CastleThis morning we visit the Vintgar Gorge, one of the most popular natural features in Slovenia. Along the narrow passage, where the Radovna River thrashes loudly against its rocky confines, there are paths, galleries and bridges constructed in the rock. We then take a private tour of Bled Castle, one of the most visited tourist attractions in Slovenia, built on top of a 130 meter cliff overlooking the lake. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore, shop or enjoy the facilities at the hotel. Tonight we enjoy a dinner and folklore entertainment at a local restaurant.

Day 7 - Postojna - Rovinj

Postojna Caves on TrainToday we depart for Postojna where we will tour the famous Postojna Cave. We begin our visit aboard the cave train and the lighting allows us to admire the size and splendour of the underground world. Next we visit the Lipica Stud Farm, the cradle of all Lipizzaner horses in the world. Nowadays, it is one of the most beautiful cultural and historical monuments of the Republic of Slovenia, its rich history dating back to the year of 1580. After a break for lunch we continue down the Istrian Penninsula to Rovinj and our hotel for the next two nights. We enjoy dinner at our hotel tonight.

Day 8 - Istrian Peninsula - Pula

Monday, October 12th, 2015

Roman ArenaToday we tour the city of Pula, where the town centre is dotted with Roman ruins, the most impressive of which are the spectacular Roman amphitheatre and the first century Triumphal Arch of Sergius. Next we board a small cruise boat for a panoramic sail around the Brijuni Islands National Park and a light lunch served aboard. Until a few years ago, the islands were closed to the general public as they were the summer residence of President Tito. After our cruise we return to our hotel.

Day 9 - Plitvice

Tuesday, October 13th, 2015

Plitvice Lake Falls AerialThis morning we travel to the beautiful Plitvice National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS). Along the way we make a short stop at the war museum in Karlovac. Upon arrival we take a walking tour of the lakes, including an electric train ride and a short boat trip. After our boat ride we will have a lunch break at the dock before finishing our walk. Dinner tonight will be at our hotel.

Day 10 - Zadar - Split

Wednesday, October 14th, 2015

Zadar Old CityOur travels today take us back down to the Dalmatian coast as we journey to Split. We make a stop in Zadar for a walking tour of this ancient city, and then enjoy the sounds of the Sea Organ. Designed by architect Nikola Basic and opened in April 2005, the Sea Organ captures the movement of the waves and transforms it into music - or something like it. Next we travel to Skradin where we walk around this charming town and have lunch on our own. Then we enjoy a wine tasting at Bibich Wine Cellar, before travelling to our hotel in Split.

Day 11 - Split City Tour - Free Time

Thursday, October 15th, 2015

Night Scene in SplitToday we enjoy a walking tour of the walled city centre of Split; these walls are part of the Roman Emperor Diocletian's Palace (WHS), of which construction was started in AD 298. Split is the second largest city in Croatia, but most of the historical buildings and monuments lie within these walls. The afternoon is free to relax on the beach or wander to our hearts content. The markets are close at hand.

Day 12 - Hvar Island

Friday, October 16th, 2015

Pax - From the top of the IslandAfter breakfast this morning we depart Split by ferry for the beautiful Island of Hvar. Here we enjoy a tour of the village of Hvar, and then a scenic ride across the island, where we see the UNESCO protected lavender fields of Stari Grad. We will sample some of the wines of Hvar while enjoying lunch in a local restauant, and still have some free time to wander Stari Grad before catching the ferry back to Split.

Day 13 - Mali Ston - Dubrovnik

Mali Ston Aerial ViewToday we depart Split for Dubrovnik (WHS). Along the way we make a short stop at Mali Ston to see the great scenery, old stone houses and the longest fortification walls in Europe. Then a short ride to the town of Dubrovnik, where we will take the tram up the mountain for an exceptional view over the old walled city. Afterwards we check into our hotel for the next two nights.

Day 14 - Dubrovnik City Tour

Sunday, October 18th, 2015

View from the topThis morning we enjoy a walking tour of the fortified Old Town of Dubrovnik, known as the Pearl of the Adriatic. Here the medieval stone walls and fortresses are the best preserved in the whole region. The remainder of the afternoon is free to do some last minute shopping or take a walk along the top of the city walls, before going out for our farewell dinner and a folkloric show in the nearby town of Konavle.

Day 15 - Return Home

Monday, October 19th, 2015

This morning we are taken to the airport for our flight home, where family and friends are waiting to hear about our exciting adventure.
